| Cut Flowers

My fascination with paper cutting, confectionery arts and the interplay of botanical shapes and textures resulted in the development of this soft sculpture vertical garden. Stylized oleanders, phloxes, Cahaba lilies and other flowers are suspended at the peak of full bloom, stripped of color and fragrance.

The geometric floral shapes are cut by hand and inserted into the slotted background canvas; no stitches or glue are required. The rich surface of this organic fiber assemblage absorbs sound, and, like indoor plants, the wool material improves the quality of the air.

This profusion of normally ephemeral life forms is a celebration of the enduring vitality and abundance of the natural world.
