| Flower Patch

As a graphic designer I enjoy setting up a system that allows for interesting variations within the parameters of a set framework. I‘m drawn to the rhythm and logic of geometric patterns, and the play of color and shapes within the unifying principal of the grid.

Inspired by the work of European felt artisans, this line of modular floral assemblages is comprised of two simple shapes or “patches” with interlocking tabs and slots.

The elements remind me of the dots of halftone photographic reproduction and the pixels of digital design. Individual pieces combine to create a compelling, whole image. As these thick felt patches fit together they create another layer of new, unexpected shapes and textures.

This elemental, common fiber lends dynamic dimension to this fresh, contemporary treatment - my tribute to the lush blossoms of friends’ gardens.
